When you think about Africa, your mind probably jumps to safari adventures and rugged scenery, but there’s so much more to explore. For me, Morocco is one of my favorite destinations. It feels exotic and exciting, full of color, texture, and history. From wandering the spice markets of Marrakech to camel rides through the Sahara, every moment feels immersive. One of my favorite hidden hotel gems? Yves Saint Laurent’s former vacation home, now a beautifully restored boutique hotel hideaway.

A vintage yellow convertible car parked in front of a grand white neoclassical building with large columns, with two children sitting inside the car.
Tree-lined driveway with tall palm trees on both sides leading to a white gazebo.
A safari vehicle on a grassy field with a background of trees and clear sky.
Two camels walking in a desert landscape with large sand dunes in the background, carrying colorful woven saddle blankets.
A person wearing a hat, a khaki shirt, and beige pants is pouring coffee from a thermos into a mug near a body of water with grassy banks, beside a vehicle with a tray of snacks on the front.

For my first-time safari-goers: Cape Town is such an easy and fun way to ease into Africa with incredible hotels, amazing food, and plenty to do, all set against the backdrop of Table Mountain. From there, head into safari on a private reserve with the pros. These private reserves not only ensure you have an unforgettable experience with wildlife and nature without the crowds, but also help protect and preserve these environments for generations to come working on conservation and sustainability. And to round out the trip? End with a few days in the stunning Cape Winelands, the perfect way to toast your adventure.

Africa has a beautiful way of capturing you with its spirit, it’s one of those places people often itch to go back to.
